此書是著名oracle技術專家tom的作品。tom的上一本大作（oracle專家高級編程expert one-on-one）已經倍受讀者推崇,口碑很好。相對于expert one-on-one來說，這本書講述的是"this is what i think you should do"而不是"this is how is works",后者是expert one-on-one的主要內容。
這本effective oracle by design的出版還有些小周折，本來是tom談妥的是wrox出版社，沒想到，天有不測風云，wrox的母公司破產，tom只好另找買家。
