因特網流量呈指數增長,并到2005年時,有望達到話音流量的10倍。這種形勢,促使研究者們加快對波分復用(WDM)傳輸和光交換技術進行深入研究,以滿足因特網流量的爆炸式增長、業務的多樣性和業務突發性的要求。考慮到ip網絡的發展趨勢和光技術的先進性,下一代因特網必然是以WDM網絡為基礎,以因特網業務流量為主的優化IP光網絡(即IP over DWDM),光交換網絡就成為下一代光因特網的核心技術之一。
利用OBS實現IP over WDM網絡拓撲結構圖如圖2所示。邊緣路由器一邊與業務網,如IP網相連,另一邊與一個核心路由器相連,而核心路由器,可以與一個或多個邊緣路由器,同時與其它核心路由器構成網狀網。OBS網絡節點功能模塊圖如圖3所示。在入口節點,邊緣路由器根據輸入的IP流的特性來決定數據突發大小、偏置時間。控制分組,包含出口地址、偏置時間、數據突發大小和QoS等信息,提前于其相應的突發數據分組在分離的控制波長上發送,其對應的突發數據分組經過一個給定偏置時間 后跟隨控制分組傳送。這些控制分組在中間節點轉換成電信號進行處理。
